Accessible Materials for Print Disabled Patrons
Access to Content for Print Disabled Patrons

People with print disabilities, which include vision, mobility, and comprehension impairments that prevent someone from being able to read a traditional book can access downloadable ebooks and audiobooks from the following providers. These impairments can be permanent or they can be temporary, such as being unable to hold a print book because of a broken limb.

Many of the downloadable or streaming resources may be helpful if you are unable to access traditional books however, the following resources are provided specifically for your use:

Centre for Equitable Library Access (CELA) is a national not-for-profit organization run by public libraries for public libraries.  Our collections and services are available to patrons with print disabilities who are members of a public library funded to receive our services, either by their province/territory or through a local library subscription.  Eligible patrons of CELA member libraries have access to more than 300,000 items in accessible formats including audio, braille, and electronic text.  More than 600 public library systems across Canada are currently members of CELA.  For more information, visit CELA.

The National Network for Equitable Library Service (NNELS) is a repository of content owned and sustained by Canadian public libraries, working with international partners, libraries, readers, and publishers (particularly Canadian ones) to make copies of books in accessible formats available to readers in Canada who have print disabilities.  For more information, visit NNELS.

Library Funding

Funding to operate the library is received from the Town of Mayerthorpe, Lac Ste. Anne County, and the Province of Alberta. Frequently, we also need a little help from our friends! In addition to our municipalities and the province, we are very fortunate to have the support of the Friends of the Mayerthorpe Public Library Society, a charitable organization consisting of volunteers who advocate, fundraise and accept donations on our behalf.

Our programs are supported by grants that we receive from FCSS (Town of Mayerthorpe FCSS and Lac Ste. Anne County FCSS) and businesses, organizations, and people who donate to the Friends of the Library.

The library appreciates the tremendous support that it receives from our amazing community!
