FAQs

You can search for books, DVDs, audiobooks, video games, and more using the online library catalogue, called TRACpac.  Visit the library catalogue at tracpac.ab.ca and login using the barcode number from your library card and your PIN. Most Library items can be renewed up to 2 times beyond the original due date. There are exceptions to renewals such as a hold on the item you have borrowed, outstanding fines or fees on your account that will block any renewals, expired memberships or memberships that will expire during the renewal period, etc. Renewals are not guaranteed. Renewals can be made in the TRACpac app on your device, from our website, from the TRACpac website or by contacting MPL.Mayerthorpe Public Library strives to offer a variety of materials to our patrons. We don't have room for everything on our shelves but that shouldn't stop you from finding what you want! Use your MPL card to access millions of items from all over Alberta and beyond. To begin, access our catalog with your device using the TRACpac app. The app is a free download from your app store. Alternatively, you can look for your items in the search bar of our website or directly from the TRACpac website. However you get there, to place your hold, simply click Request to begin the process. Choose to have your hold delivered to MPL (or any other convenient library) and you will receive a notification when your hold has been delivered and is ready for pickup. Please view our eResources page to access digital content.eResources are digital resources that are available to you for free and are provided to library cardholders by the province of Alberta, the TRAC consortium or Yellowhead Regional Library System.LinkedIn Learning, Consumer Reports, Grant Connect, Ancestry.com, Press Reader, and Overdrive are just a few of the resources that you can use with your library card. Many of the resources provided have an associated app for ease of access on your device. If you would like a lesson or assistance with any of our eresources, contact the library. If you are unsure of your PIN/Password, click the I forgot my password link in TRACpac, or give us a call.Look further with an Interlibrary Loan (ILL). Using the website, Alberta Relais, search through content owned by academic, special and larger public libraries in addition to the items owned by TRAC libraries. To begin your search, select Yellowhead Regional Library as your location. You will need your MPL barcode and pin to place a request. Although very rare, some academic libraries may charge a small fee to process loans of certain items. If you are unable to find an item after searching TRACpac and Alberta Relais, contact MPL for assistance. If you wish to see if an item is part of our collection at MPL and is available, you can do so from the TRACpac website. In the top left-hand corner, choose Mayerthorpe Public Library from the drop-down list. Then limit your search to All formats at this branch. If the items returned by your search show a local availability of 1 or more items, you should be able to stop in and pick up that item at our library. This filter is not available in the TRACpac app. It is still possible to see if MPL owns the item you are searching for but for ease, you may instead choose to access the TRACpac website for this purpose.Enjoy other Alberta libraries in-person and borrow items from them with your MPL card. Before checking out your items, register your MPL card in minutes with ME Libraries.Your MPL card is already valid at all the libraries within TRAC.Me Libraries registration may fail if fines of over $10 have accumulated, MPL card has expired, you do not have an email address registered with MPL or are under the age of 18.When your item has been delivered to MPL (or the library you requested it be delivered to), you will be notified through the method you chose when you created or renewed your library membership. Notifications can be delivered to your email, by automated phone call or by text. You can change your notification method by contacting the library.Be aware that there may be many different formats of a single item. Just as there are multiple formats for a movie (DVD, Blu-ray, DVD+Blu-ray), the same book may be available in print, large print, as an audiobook, a graphic novel, a Playaway or in another language. And then there are the digital formats for eBooks and eAudiobooks! Be careful when you are placing your hold to ensure that you get what you want.To narrow your search in the TRACpac app, specify the format you are looking for by touching format at the bottom of your search results. You will be prevented from checking out or renewing items when your card expires or if your card has accumulated $10.00 or more in fines. However, we believe that libraries should be free. Thanks to a contribution from the Friends of the Library, we have established a fund to pay for fees associated with the library. You can use the fund to pay for cards, small fines and program fees, including those charged by our partners when they offer a program at the library (ie computer classes). All you have to do to use the fund is tell us you'll pay it forward when our staff ask how you will be paying. In return, go out and spread some kindness! Contributions to the fund are accepted. If you wish to make a donation, please contact the library or use our CanadaHelps online donation form.
